Abstract

Peyronie’s Disease (PD), or induratio penis plastic, is the development of fibrosis within the tunica albuginea of the penis, resulting in abnormal and often times painful curvature of the penis. This localized process is thought to be secondary to ischemic and/or traumatic events. The incidence of comorbidities in these patients and the relationship of comorbidities to the degree of penile curvature is not well understood. To better characterize PD including co-morbid diseases and the distribution of the degree of curvature and 10-year survival status of patients from a single institution. All male patients with a diagnosis of PD that were seen in a dedicated male sexual health center were collected from 2015 to 2019 from the electronic medical record. The searchable electronic medical record center was created in 2015, which defined the start of the study. A chart review was performed in which each patient’s degree of PD curvature, ability to have penetrative intercourse, and other disease diagnoses were extracted. All diagnoses in each patient’s problem list was classified into broad categories (e.g., autoimmune, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, general urology, etc.). The Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) was calculated for each patient. Chi-Square analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between the CCI and the degree of curvature for our cohort.
