Abstract
In this study, the idea of the optimum sampling period and a method to determine it are presented. The optimum sampling period gives us the minimum sampling period such that the accuracy of prediction should be improved most. Nonlinear systems are of interest here which cause difficulty in control using ordinary prediction methods. The control forces are calculated by using several output values near future predicted by a short-tem prediction method by chaos theory. The presented control method is applied to a rigid pendulum forced by sinusoidal displacement in horizontal direction at the supported point. The time series of the swing angle is the target of prediction. The effectiveness of the methods presented in this study are examined even in nonlinear systems by numerical examples.
