Abstract

The objective of this presentation is to enhance clinicians’ understanding of the psychological and ethical issues in foster child and sibling placement. Placing siblings together can increase a child’s resilience to ongoing stressors, improve school performance, and lower the frequency of internalizing disorders. Participants will understand how to apply principles from the AACAP Code of Ethics to the issue of sibling separation. Defining the sibling relationship and identifying the obstacles to sibling unification can be important aspects of patient advocacy.
