Abstract
from recipients of cardiac grafts from immuncompetent brain dead donors (p 0.03, p 0.05) and contained more neutrophil granulocytes (p 0.02). Conclusions: Our analysis dissected the effects of brain death in cardiac grafts originating from immune competent wildtype and immune deficient knockout mice for the first time. Organ-specific immune activation rather than parenchymal injury seems to trigger the accelerated immune response after transplantation of brain dead donor organs and may provide the basis for novel treatment concepts.
