Abstract

The surgical treatment of movement disorders has evolved from crude, nonimaged lesioning in the brain to deep brain stimulation (DBS) in which complex, high-frequency electrical impulses are delivered to anatomically precise locations within the deep nuclei of the brain. This chapter describes the DBS procedure as well as expected outcomes and risks.
