Abstract

Introduction: The characteristic histopathological features of vasculitic neuropathy are axonal degeneration with vessel wall inflammation and necrosis. Other suggestive features include multifocal or segmental fibre loss, occluded or recanalised vessels, haemorrhage and vessel wall invasion without definite fibrinoid necrosis. Prominent demyelination is atypical however conduction block, the electrophysiological correlate of demyelination, has been reported in vasculitic neuropathy and demyelination is a prominent feature in some ischaemia/reperfusion nerve injury models.
