Abstract

Background: Hypertension is the leading cardiovascular problem and is still a global health burden. The incidence of hypertension is related to several risk factors, and hyperuricemia might be linked to the increased risk of hypertension. Objective: The aim of this study is to discuss the association of hyperuricemia and the risk of hypertension. Method: Systematic literatures search was conducted from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and PLOS One to find relevant Studies from 2010 to 2023. Random-effect model was used to analyze. Confidence Interval (CI) of 95% were reported. I2 test was used to assess the heterogeneity across studies. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3. Result: Four studies were selected and 4807 participants were included in this study. From our analysis, hyperuricemia was associated with the increased risk of hypertension (RR 1.42 [1.25, 1.62], p < 0.00001, I2: 58%). Our analysis showed insignificant heterogeneity Conclusion: Hyperuricemia was associated with the risk of hypertension. Management of hyperuricemia is important in reducing the risk of developing hypertension
