Abstract

To determine if patient’s satisfaction after penile prosthesis (PP) placement is associated with postoperative penile length. This is a prospective randomized, single-blinded, cohort of patients undergoing primary (virgin) 3-piece inflatable PP placement . Stretched flaccid penile length (SPL), from pubic bone to tip of glans penis, was measured prior to surgery in all subjects. Patients were randomized into two groups, a study group (SG) in which patients were aware of their preoperative SPL; and a control group (CG) who only underwent SPL measurement while under anesthesia. Erect penile length (EPL) measurements were then obtained immediately after the surgery, at 6 weeks and 6 months postop. Patient satisfaction was evaluated with the EDITS and IIEF-EF score questionnaires obtained at 6-month postoperative appointment, along with a subjective comparison between pre-operative and post-operative size, and subsequent overall satisfaction regarding postoperative penis size. ANOVA and t-test were used for statistical analysis.
