Abstract

Human-friendly robots often interact directly with humans for various tasks. The safety of humans has been one of the most important issues in human-friendly robotics. This paper proposes a new safety device to guarantee the safety for humans in the human-friendly robot's workspace. The safety device consists of only mechanical components without actuators, controllers and batteries. First, the design concept of the safety device is discussed. Second, the mechanism of the device is explained. Finally, the usefulness of the device is experimentally examined.
