Abstract

Interpersonal violence (IPV) is a public health concern with a high lifetime prevalence (1in 4 women and 1 in 10 men). Survivors face significant barriers to seeking help or disclosing IPV in health care settings. The emergency department (ED) provides a key opportunity to offer survivors accessible information about rights and resources and link them to services tailored to their needs. This link is critical, especially as those presenting to the ED are at high risk for re-abuse and poor mental and physical health outcomes.
