Abstract

Emergency medical services (EMS) is an important component of emergency medicine residency curricula. For over 20 years, second- and third-year residents at a university-affiliated program have staffed a physician response vehicle and responded to selected calls in an urban EMS system with on-line faculty backup, yet no similar program has been described since its inception. The purpose of this study is to describe the out-of-hospital educational experience and patient care provided through this program, as well as determine residents' perceptions of this program.
