Abstract

Sexual dysfunction (SD) is common in type 2 diabetic men, but few subjects are diagnosed and treated. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is increasing worldwide. It is expected that the number of subjects suffering from SD will increase in the near future. Sexual dysfunction is an under appreciated, under-recognized, under-discussed, and commonly untreated complication of diabetes. Sexual dysfunction has a major impact on quality of life (QoL) as well as psychosocial and emotional well-being of persons. The purpose of this review is to highlight the paucity of international guidelines in sexual dysfunction in men with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). A literature search was performed to identify and evaluate the existing data on guidelines for sexual dysfunction management in men with T2DM. SD in T2DM would be better appreciated and managed if guidelines were set by international bodies like the International Society for Sexual Medicine. (ISSM)
