Abstract

In this study, local logos from the years 1946 to 1960 were collected and analysis by using the Document Survey Method. Through the Investigations of changes in logo design in these early years by composite analysis of design elements. A summary was made into the relationships between the characteristics of logos used in different industries and during different years. The results of the study follow: 1. The logos that have a round frame or circular pattern in themselves were a very common component in the early period. Symmetry was another prevalent feature during this period, whether the main part of the logo was writing or a pattern design. 2. As a result of the effect of situation of the material environment of post-war Taiwan, the majority of logos were for basic materials in the food, medical, and transportation industries. The machinery and finance industries were becoming less common than other types. 3. The motifs for the majority design of logos in the early years were Chinese characters. Another common logo's style was a combination of writing and illustration signifying that shows most people were used to this design type of logo during that period.
