Abstract
Google Images is readily accessible and commonly used by patients. We sought to understand whether Google Image results are representative of how skin conditions appear in varying skin tones. Because the Google algorithm is personalized based on past searches of each user, to assess baseline results a browser without any prior search history was used. Searches for acne, eczema, psoriasis, shingles, and hives were performed and the first 50 images of patients that resulted were graded as either lighter skin or darker skin.
