Abstract
AbstractA novel transflective display with wide viewing angle and fast response time has been fabricated by association with an optically compensated bend (OCB) liquid crystal mode. By applying the pseudo‐impulse driving method, the driving voltage is reduced and the motion picture quality of conventional hold‐type LCDs is greatly improved. Moreover, the UHA technology is also applied to improve the insufficient transmittance of OCB LCD caused by the impulse driving method. We demonstrated a 2.2‐intch QCIF+ TR‐OCB LCD with a high aperture ratio of 80% and a fast response time of 1.6ms in the reflective region. It exhibits a vivid image quality and wide viewing angle characteristics in both outdoor and indoor circumstances, which is suitable for mobile TV applications.
