Abstract

Researchers measure their scientific impact through H-index, total citations, journal impact factor, and more. However, these methods may not imply societal impact. A newer scoring method from Altmetric provides insights into societal impact through twitter metrics, policy sources, and news outlet monitoring. In this study, we sought to determine if major differences exist between top-cited dermatopathology publications and high Altmetric scoring articles. Within Web of Science, a citation report was performed to determine the top-cited “dermatopathology” articles and exclusion criteria included articles with: an Altmetric score <1 or unrelated to dermatopathology or skin diseases.
