Abstract

Introduction and Aims of the Study: We hypothesise that women with longitudinal continuity of obstetric care are less likely to have unplanned maternity attendances than those with poor continuity. Benefits of continuity of midwifery have been extensively publicised following the 2016 Cochrane Review. Continuity of doctor has been associated with improved outcomes in primary care, however has not been described in obstetrics. Continuity of obstetrician has been linked to a decrease in emergency attendances in a cohort of women attending a ‘Rainbow Clinic’.
