Abstract

The Low Altitude Stationary Flight Test has been conducted to prove the flight control, operation and tracking technologies for the Stratospheric Platform Airships. Low Altitude Stationary Flight Test Vehicle (SPF-2) that is a 60m-class powered and unmanned airship has been developed for the flight test. The control system of SPF-2 also has been developed and proven by the numerical simulation. The characteristics proper to airships have been considered in the simulation model. The flight test has been conducted in 2004. 8 flights have been conducted and the target of the flight test, that is to reach 4km altitude and to conduct autonomous stationary flight, has been successfully achieved. The flight control and guidance system for the autonomous flight has functioned as expected and the technologies to design control system of the airship by numerical simulations have been proven through the flight test.
