Abstract

Introduction: Fetal ascites is defined as an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity of the fetus and usually detected by ultrasound during the perinatal period. Ascites can be isolated or observed with other alterations. In this case a rare idiopathic fetal pathology is presented. Case presentation: A 41-year-old, IV/I, at 25-week gestation was diagnosed with isolated fetal ascites. Additionally, HbS antigens and hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNR were found in patient’s blood, thus chronic HBV infection was diagnosed with no indicated treatment.
