Abstract

Vitamin D has been shown to play an important role in calcium absorption, skin homeostasis, and immune regulation. It is also involved in promoting normal hair follicle growth and cycling. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in nonscarring alopecia has been documented. However, the relationship between vitamin D levels and scarring alopecia such as lichen planopilaris/frontal fibrosing alopecia (LPP/FFA) has not been well-studied. This retrospective case series compares the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in patients with LPP/FFA to that of the general US population.
