Abstract

High-speed all-optical logic gates are the demand of an exponentially growing high-performance all-optical network. Here, we propose the six all-optical logic gates by exploiting cross-gain modulation (XGM) in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The high chirping and low extinction ratio cause the low bitrate in XGM based optical logic gates. However, the XGM interaction experienced by a low power probe signal increases significantly in the presence of a high-power pump signal and a high injection current of SOA. The XGM interaction also increases for high gain and low saturation power SOA. By considering these parameters, we realize a high extinction ratio and high-quality factor all-optical logic gates at the bitrate of 340 Gb/s, increasing the possibility of establishing a high-performance all-optical network.
