Abstract

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer and has continued to rise in the past decade. Sunscreen has been shown to decrease the risk of developing melanoma by 50%, and squamous cell carcinoma by 40%. Australia has a robust sun-safety program which was implemented in 1988 and has shown to be effective in increasing sun protection behaviors and a decline in melanoma incidence. Behavior change is hard and complex and important for dermatologists to understand to help modify a patient's sun protective behaviors.
