Abstract

ASDs involve abnormalities across brain systems, resulting in a constellation of symptoms, including behavioral inflexibility, cognitive dysfunction, learning impairment, altered social interactions, and perceptive time difficulties. Recently, it was discovered that a common gene variant involved in noncanonical Wnt signaling, prickle2, was present in individuals with ASD. Corroborated findings in prickle2 knockout and heterozygous mice suggest patterns of behavior similar to individuals with ASD, including altered social interaction on the 3-chambered social task and behavioral inflexibility on the Barnes maze.
