Abstract
COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was first identified in late 2019 and rapidly spread, leading to a global pandemic. While efforts at mitigation and treatment are being implemented to reduce disease transmission and impact, these efforts are not complete without safe and effective vaccines introduced through global vaccination programs. Children represent a population in which vaccine development has been lacking to date, but for whom a vaccine for COVID-19 is necessary. An understanding of COVID-19 vaccination is necessary for child and adolescent psychiatrists to stay abreast of the current status of vaccine development and how it pertains to children’s health.
