Abstract

Homeless individuals are more likely to experience adverse health effects in comparison to their counterparts with stable housing. Health literacy plays a large role in the health disparities in this population. We present a literature review of health care literacy in the homeless population and evaluated different health literacy programs. In dermatology programs, health literacy is important as skin care is a long-term relationship between the patient and their sun safety practices. To improve health care outcomes, especially within the homeless population, it is important to meet the goals of a health care literacy program while directing the program to the patient population.
