Abstract

The endothelial cell layer of vascularized solid organ transplants is the target of both innate and adaptive host immune responses. During the posttransplantation course damaged donor endothelium can be replaced by host endothelial cells. The precise mechanisms determining the degree of endothelial cell replacement are not known.
