Abstract

Background: Melanoma and its subtypes continue to rise in incidence, culminating one of the fastest rising cancer diagnoses in recent years. Optimal surgical treatment modality that minimizes recurrence of invasive melanoma (IM) and melanoma in situ (MIS), in addition to their lentigo maligna (LM) subtypes, has been debated with proponents for standard wide local excision, serial disk staged excision, and Mohs micrographic surgery. Serial staged excision (SSE) is a common practice method in which a series of mapped excisions are made according to histopathologic examination of tissue.
