Abstract

University of Tokyo and Tokyo Institute of Technology succeeded in launching CubeSats in June 2003, and have been operating them for over two years. Through the operations of our satellites, we have experienced several difficulties such as RF interference in congested amateur frequency bands and short visible duration. To overcome these limitations, Japanese universities developing micro/nano-satellites initiated the "Ground Station Network" (GSN) project. This project aims for remote operations of satellites by connecting distributed ground stations via the Internet. Using the Internet reduces cost effectively and enables wide range of cooperation framework. We established the efficient remote operation system based on XML web services technology, and verified its feasibility through usual operations of our CubeSats.
