Abstract

The aim of the chapter is to showcase examples of the advantages of using ultrasound in green chemistry while focusing on its applications in organic synthesis (e.g., heterogeneous catalysis, heterocycles synthesis, heterocycles functionalization, cycloaddition reactions, etc.). Examples range from catalyst and nanoparticle preparation to organic syntheses involving metals, organometallic reagents, and heterogeneous catalysis, as well as extraction procedures and environmental applications. Sonochemical processes can reduce the formation of hazardous byproducts and the generation of waste and also produce energy savings. A systematic overview of green sonochemical processes should provide useful models for furthering the progress of organic chemistry using harmless and greener sound energy.
