Abstract

Lymphangiography refers to imaging of the lymphatic system to detect various types of lymphatic leakage. Thoracic duct embolization is a therapeutic option for patients with chylothorax, chylous ascites, or a lymphatic fistula. Lymphatic leakage is a rare but severe complication that can occur after a variety of surgical procedures in the chest, abdomen, or pelvis. Percutaneous access to the lymphatic system and subsequent catheter-directed embolization of the thoracic duct is a minimally invasive alternative to surgical ligation of the thoracic duct in cases of persistent lymphatic leakage. This chapter review the techniques of lymphangiography and thoracic duct embolization, the clinical applications, and the complications of the procedures.
