Abstract

Background: Meckel diverticulum is a vestigial remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct and is the most common congenital malformation of the small intestine. It can result in a number of complications, including bleeding, intussusception and small bowel obstruction. Symptomatic cases are traditionally characterised by the rule of two: prevalence rate of 2%, commonly symptomatic before the age of 2 years, located 2 feet proximal to the ileocaecal valve, 2 inches long and 2 types of heterotopic mucosa.
