Abstract

This paper describes the maritime works performed by the Consorcio Valencia 2007 (Valencia 2007 Consortium), with a view to adapting the Port of Valencia facilities so that they would be suitable for hosting the 32nd America's Cup competition. The competition was the opportunity for the city to transform the inner basin into a new sports marina. The basin had lost its efficiency as a commercial port, and that is why it has changed its activity into recreational uses. The new uses created new infrastructure necessities, most of which were included in the 32nd Americas Cup contract. The maritime infrastructures were the new harbour entrance, the communication channel, the wharfs, the large yachts jetty and the new marina.
