Abstract

Background: Of the 82 million displaced individuals worldwide, 4 million are asylum seekers. Physician participation in the forensic medical evaluation process increases the approval rate of asylum applications. Skin findings are the most common signs of torture and abuse, yet dermatologists are not commonly involved with asylum medicine. To begin to address this gap, we designed and implemented a pilot clinical forensic dermatology curriculum for residents in the UCSF Department of Dermatology.
