Abstract

A 1-day-old female born at 39 weeks presented with a lesion on the right shoulder. Dermatology was consulted for evaluation of suspected hemangioma. Her parents denied a family history of vascular malformations or coagulability disorders. Physical examination revealed a 2 × 4 cm poorly defined violaceous patch overlying the right posterior shoulder. Laboratory evaluation revealed abnormally low fibrinogen (100 mg/dL) and elevated D-dimer (764 ng/mL). Doppler US was negative. PT, PTT, and CBC were within normal limits.
