Abstract

Many drug doses used in the Emergency Department (ED) as well as the tidal volumes used in mechanical ventilation are based on ideal body weight (IBW) rather than actual body weight. IBW is a calculation based on the true height (TH) and gender of the individual. True height is often unavailable during initial ED interventions.
