Abstract

Publisher Summary Species representing several genera of Eriophyidae and two genera of Diptilomiopidae are found on the fruit and nut trees of the genus, Prunus. Eriophyids on commercial Prunus include bud inhabitants, twig, bud and leaf gall mites, and leaf vagrants. Prunus-diptilomiopids, like diptilomiopids on other plants, are leaf vagrants. Commercial Prunus species are of palearctic origin and most of the eriophyoids found on commercial Prunus trees were described from Europe. The several palearctic eriophyoids that attack commercial Prunus are variously restricted in their geographical distribution and number of commercial Prunus species upon which they are found. This chapter presents Eriophyoidea reported from commercial stone fruit and nut trees. Acalitus phloeocoptes (Nalepa) causes twig galls on several Prunus fruits and nut trees. Aculus fockeui and Aculus cornutus, both are leaf vagrants. Aculus fockeui reproduces on a wide range of palearctic Prunus species, including the commercially important fruit and nut species. Although this species cause russeting, silvering, bud malformations, or a variety of leaf galls on their hosts, much needs to be learned about the real economic impact of most species on their respective hosts.
