Abstract

This chapter focuses on the speciation analysis of mercury, and the interaction between mercury species and biomolecules. Important aspects for sample collection, pretreatment and storage, extraction, and derivatization for the speciation analysis of mercury are discussed. Analytical methodologies including both nonchromatographic and chromatographic approaches for speciation analysis are highlighted. An overview on the binding of mercury species with deoxyribonucleic acid and proteins is also given. Finally, future study on the speciation analysis of mercury, and the interaction between mercury species and biomolecules, is prospected.
