Abstract

Lubricating oil is used for many machines and devices, and lubricating oil is degraded with use. Degradation of the lubricating oil is roughly classified two types, one is caused by solid particle and the other is caused by oxidation. For diagnosis methods of solid particles in lubricating oil, there are many standards and researches. However, there are few diagnosis methods for the sledge caused by oxidative degradation. We prepared two kinds of the degradation oil in order to concern the relations among the color of membrane patch and some parameters. As a result, we found that the membrane patch color susceptive changed by the amount of oxidation products, and the maximum color difference increased with the average molecular weight. Therefore it is possible to know the oxidative degradation degree of oil from the membrane patch color.
