Abstract

An English-made four old steam locomotivs (SL) are preserving in Japan. These SL were imported by the Imperial Government Railways of Japan (IGRJ), and used at Tokyo-Yokohama railway in 1872 and Osaka-Kobe one in 1874,they are the beginning of railway transportation east and west region in Japan. In this paper, present state of these SL, outline of history of them and their builders, and their meanings of the industrial heritage from the history of mechanical engineering and technology are descrived.
