Abstract

PGD grade and ICU-days was seen in the extubated patients (r 0.14, p ns) in contrast to intubated patients (r 0.27, p 0.02). Intubated PGD grade 3 patients at T24 were associated with nitric oxide (40%), ECMO (33%) and differential-ventilation (13%) (nil in extubated patients). Thirty-day mortality in the extubated and intubated patients at T24 was 3% and 9%, respectively (p 0.04). Conclusions: The distribution and clinical impact of PGD grades in intubated and extubated patients are significantly different. Thus, it is recommended that extubated patients be automatically included as ‘grade 0-1’.
