Abstract

The participant will discuss the impact of school-based suicide prevention programs on suicide rates among adolescents, and the participant will learn practical ways to advocate for suicide prevention programs within their community. The increasing rates of suicide among adolescents has become a major public health concern. In 2019, suicide was the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10 to 24 years old. Adolescents in this age range spend a significant amount of time in school. As a result, school-based mental health programs have become an avenue for addressing suicidality, and districts that have incorporated suicide prevention programs have reduced suicidality among their students.
