Abstract
Suicide is a leading cause of death among adolescents in North America. Youth who present to the emergency department (ED) with acute suicidality are at increased risk for death by suicide, thereby presenting an opportunity for secondary prevention of suicide. The objectives of the study are to determine the effectiveness of the Suicide prevention for Adolescents and Families in the Emergency department (SAFE) intervention in reducing suicide-related events at 6 months, as compared with case navigation (NAV) among youth presenting to the ED with suicide risk events.
