Abstract

Radioactive $^{32}\mathrm{Si}$ was produced by double neutron capture in natural silicon. From a measurement of the isotopic ratio $^{32}\mathrm{Si}$${/}^{30}$Si by means of accelerator mass spectrometry the neutron-capture cross section for radioactive $^{31}\mathrm{Si}$ (${\mathit{T}}_{1/2}$=2.622 h) was deduced to be 73\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}6 mb.
