Abstract

31P spin lattice relaxation time data and, thence, assessments of relative molecular mobilities are obtained for the amphiphilic tertiary phosphines [Ph 2P(CH 2) n PMe 3] + ( n = 2, 3, 6, 10) in aqueous (D 2O) solution and on tethering via the tetra-alkylphosphonium groups to a cation exchange resin; immersion of the resin-sorbed ligands in D 2O results in sufficient shortening of the correlation times for molecular tumbling that well-resolved 31P{ 1H} NMR spectra of the solid materials may be observed.
