Abstract

The protonation constants of iminobis(methylenephosphonic acid) (IDPH, H 4idph, H 4L), N-methyliminobis(methylenephosphonic acid) (MIDPH, H 4midph, H 4L) and nitrilotris(methylenephosphonic acid) (NTPH, H 6ntph, H 6L) were determined by 31P NMR spectroscopy at 25 °C in 0.1 mol dm −3 KNO 3 at 11<pH<14. For equilibrium L+H↔HL, log K=11.5 (0.1), 12.2(0.1) and 12.9 (0.1), respectively. The present values are higher than those reported earlier. 31P NMR chemical shifts were found to be dependent on the ionic strength.
