Abstract

In 2016, our emergency department began a universal HIV screening program for adult patients who had not been tested within a year prior to presentation. Unfortunately, from the onset of the program, we encountered a significant amount of patients who refused/opted-out of testing. We designed this study to define the characteristics of our ED population and to identify any perceived barriers to HIV testing among ED patients.
