Abstract

Control of welding distortion should be performed during welding procedure rather than adjustment after welding. Numerical simulation with three-dimensional model of in-process distortion control in fillet welds is studied in this paper. Moving process is considered in the analysis with temperature-dependant material properties. Additional heating under the flange are done together with welding process so that the difference of temperature distribution in the joint reduces cooling process after welding. Various heat conditions were studied by experiment and by finite element analysis to choose appropriate executions and to study the mechanism for reducing welding distortion.
