Abstract

Fuel components generated by fuel reforming using exhaust heat improve thermal efficiency of spark ignition engine. In this study, we estimated reforming fuel components of gasoline and energy recovery ratio with equilibrium calculation using chemical kinetic model of gasoline surrogate at the exhaust gas conditions where the gasoline engine was operated at excess air ratio of 1.0 and 1.6. The main chemical species generated by fuel reforming were found to be hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane. Flame speed of premixed gas including the reforming fuel components was calculated and we found that the flame speed of the fuel with the reforming components increased more than that of the fuel without the reforming components at the excess air ratio of 1.0 and 1.6.
