Abstract

Women who have used indoor tanning beds are 6 times more likely to have a melanoma diagnosis in their twenties compared with the general population. Colorado state law currently lacks age restrictions on the use of tanning beds, and tanning salons have continued to defend the presence of self-implemented age requirements. This study assessed age requirements and consumer information provided regarding health risk and benefits to using tanning beds. 133 Colorado tanning salons across the state were called twice independently with telephone surveys (following Colorado IRB protocol 19-2195).
