Abstract
Patients who leave the emergency department (ED) without being seen and evaluated, or left without being seen (LWBS), pose a continual challenge for all EDs. This population poses the moral and ethical dilemma of not providing care to those who present for it. They also carry significant risk associated with the missed opportunities, for the patient and the institution. Also, LWBS rates are nationally reported metrics for institutions and generate no reimbursement. As such, EDs nationally are continually trying to implement initiatives to quickly evaluate and treat patients.
